Gold Compass is a transformative educational platform with a noble mission to empower and inspire young black people to pursue their aspirations fearlessly. They recognised the need to establish a captivating brand identity that resonated with their target audience and approached our agency for assistance. Tasked with the challenge, we eagerly accepted the opportunity to create a brand identity that would not only attract their desired demographic but also reflect the platform’s essence and purpose.
Defining Brand Positioning
To start the process, we conducted in-depth brand workshops with the Gold Compass team. These workshops allowed us to gain a deep understanding of their vision, values, and target audience. By immersing ourselves in their world, we could identify the core elements that would make the brand unique and authentic. Through these collaborative sessions, we defined Gold Compass’s brand positioning as an empowering force that celebrates the accomplishments of historic and modern-day black figures, fueling the dreams and ambitions of the next generation.
Crafting a Bespoke Identity
With the brand positioning firmly established, we set out to develop a bespoke logo and brand identity system that would speak directly to the hearts of the target demographic. Drawing inspiration from the symbol of a compass, we designed a logo that showcased a golden compass needle pointing upwards, symbolising guidance, aspiration, and upward mobility. The gold colour represented excellence and achievement while reflecting the platform’s name.

Appealing to the Target Audience
Understanding the significance of cultural representation, we ensured the brand identity resonated deeply with black children. We carefully selected fonts, colours, and visual elements that reflected contemporary aesthetics. Additionally, we created captivating graphic elements that embodied the youthfulness of the brand.
